Samuel Bledsoe, M.D., FACS FASMBS
Dr. Samuel Bledsoe is a board-certified general and bariatric surgeon at Arkansas Heart Hospital’s Encore Medical Center in Bryant. He specializes in several weight loss surgery techniques, with the majority of his practice dedicated to laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS).
ABOUT DR. BLEDSOE
Dr. Bledsoe received his medical doctorate from the University of Arkansas College of Medicine in Little Rock, where he graduated with honors in research and surgery. He completed general surgery residencies at Carraway Methodist Medical Center and Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama, after which he completed a bariatric surgery mini-fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Before joining Arkansas Heart Hospital, Dr. Bledsoe worked with Mid-Louisiana Surgical Specialists in Alexandria, Louisiana. Dr. Bledsoe started the bariatric surgery program at CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini in Alexandria and developed it into a nationally-recognized Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). In addition to being the Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery for 6 years, Dr. Bledsoe was also on the Medical Executive Committee and was the Section Chief of Surgery.
Dr. Bledsoe is married with three children. He teaches Sunday school at his local church. A lifetime member of the National Eagle Scout Association, Dr. Bledsoe also volunteers with the Boy Scouts.
MEMBERSHIPS
Dr. Bledsoe is a member of the board and Chief of Surgery at Arkansas Heart Hospital’s Encore Medical Center in Little Rock. He also serves as the Bariatric Medical Director at the Bariatric & Metabolic Institute (BMI) at Arkansas Heart Hospital. Dr. Bledsoe is a regular consultant for Ethicon, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson.
Dr. Bledsoe has been a member of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery since 2009. In 2012, he joined its Access to Care Committee, and he became a Fellow of the Society in 2015. He served as treasurer for its Louisiana Chapter in 2016.
Dr. Bledsoe is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Southeastern Surgical Society, and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). He is medically licensed in Arkansas.
Dr. Bledsoe currently serves on the Medical Executive Committee, the Credentials Committee, and the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee at Arkansas Heart Hospital. He is a member of the Finance & Auditing Committee and the Board of Trustees for the Arkansas Medical Society.
